Cotswold Designer Outlet, Tewkesbury

Cotswold Designer Outlet, Tewkesbury

Overview

Located adjacent to Junction 9 of the M9 motorway between Birmingham and Bristol, The Cotswold Designer Outlet was designed by Roberts Limbrick Architects in partnership with developer Robert Hitchins. The scheme was delivered by Bouygues UK, with installation works carried out by JG Bricklaying. Having opened in July this year, the development comprises 54 premium retail units, which will rise to 90 when the second phase is completed.

Vobster Architectural were pleased to work with the architect, developer and main contractor to deliver the cast stone elements for this project, with the support of the specification team at Taylor Maxwell. The use of semi-dry cast stone brings a contemporary yet classic aesthetic to the range of buildings that make up the site, allowing them to harmonise beautifully with the existing Cotswold vernacular.

Concept to Completion

Vobster Architectural supplied a blend of semi-dry cast stone in Portland and Bathstone colourways for this premium designer outlet. The cast stone was installed on the low-level plinths, window heads, string course and gable copings.

This project presented a few challenges for the team at Vobster Architectural, which they were pleased to overcome. The use of a lifting aid was limited due to site restraints, so the stone was cast in smaller than usual pieces to allow for easier handling on site. The development also required a large amount of cast stone to be supplied within a short timeframe. To overcome this, the team at Vobster Architectural increased their labour output to ensure the specific deadlines were met.

This scheme aims to deliver a fresh, ethical and sustainable take on the Cotswold aesthetic. To fulfil this design vision, local materials were selected and a localised recruitment plan was initiated, alongside a range of other green initiatives including a green travel plan, fast charging EV bays and a zero waste to landfill plan.

“What we have managed to do here I believe is design and build an outlet scheme using suitable and sustainable materials in a fashion that creates the right aspect for an attractive village. We are a family business and Robert Hitchins is all about working with people, supporting people, investing in people and that is exactly what we have done here.”
