EQ, Bristol

Overview

Set in the heart of Bristol city centre, EQ Bristol is an award winning 200,000 square foot office building recognised for its sustainability credentials, wellbeing features and sharp architectural detailing. Developed by Commercial Estates Group (CEG), designed by architects Aukett Swanke and delivered by main contractor BAM Construction, the EQ building has redefined the standard for modern workspace in Bristol.

To achieve the overarching sense of lasting quality and durability required for such a prominent project, it was important that the facade materials reflected this. Vobster Architectural were therefore engaged by the project team to supply the premium cast stone elements for the scheme, contributing to the building’s strong sense of permanence and identity.

Concept to Completion

Aside from cast stone, the building’s facade comprises expansive glazing from the ground floor up, creating a striking presence in the cityscape that optimises the natural light and highlights the city location to its occupants.

Vobster Architectural supplied the bespoke cast stone column casings which were installed at ground level, forming a robust foundation that creates a sense of gravitas and arrival. Designed to provide both visual weight and long-term durability, these large-scale units were manufactured using Portland wet cast stone which delivers a fine-textured, natural-stone appearance. Cast stone was the ideal choice for this aspect of the project due to its ability to be formed into robust oversized components, and its strong performance in urban environments.

Alongside office space, the EQ building features a rooftop bar and terrace, fitness suite, café, event and social areas, all designed to enrich the wellbeing of the people who use the building. Along with being rated BREEAM Outstanding, the EQ building is the first newly built office building to commit to achieving Carbon Net Zero in Operation, aligning with Bristol City Council’s ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030.
