Travelodge Wimbledon

Travelodge Wimbledon

Overview

Located in the heart of Wimbledon town centre, the Travelodge Wimbledon development replaces a dated building with a contemporary seven storey hotel comprising 177 guest rooms, alongside ground floor retail units and a restaurant and bar.

Vobster Architectural worked closely with developers Reef Origin, architects Mountford Pigott, and main contractor Barnes Construction to deliver bespoke wet cast stone elements for the façade. As part of the wider façade package, Taylor Maxwell supplied the facing brickwork and glazed brick elements, helping to create a cohesive material palette that draws on the character of the surrounding area while establishing a distinctive identity for the building. The completed development enhances the local streetscape and provides a prominent new building within Wimbledon town centre.

Concept to Completion

A key objective of the scheme was to create a façade that responded sensitively to Wimbledon’s architecture while meeting the demands of a large-scale hotel development. Drawing inspiration from the area's traditional use of brick and stone detailing, the design incorporated a carefully considered mix of materials to provide depth, texture and visual interest across the elevations.

Vobster Architectural was brought on board to manufacture bespoke wet cast stone components that would work seamlessly alongside the brick and glazed brick façade supplied by Taylor Maxwell. Through close collaboration with the architect and contractor, we helped realise the design vision by producing architectural stone elements that complemented the building's form while reflecting the traditional masonry detailing found throughout the local area.

The project required a high level of coordination to ensure that each cast stone component integrated precisely with the wider façade package. Our team worked closely with the project stakeholders throughout the design, manufacturing and delivery stages, ensuring the finished elements achieved the required aesthetic quality, dimensional accuracy and performance standards. This collaborative approach between all parties was instrumental in achieving a consistent finish across the building envelope.

The completed building successfully balances modern architecture with contextual sensitivity. The combination of facing brickwork, glazed brick detailing and bespoke cast stone features creates a façade that is both elegant and durable, contributing positively to the character of Wimbledon town centre while providing high-quality accommodation and commercial space for the local community.
